UPPER INTERMEDIATE/THRESHOLD
Learner Profile
As a student in the Upper Intermediate level, you are
an individual comfortable with using English in familiar situations on
a daily basis, but have a more difficult time communicating complex ideas
and concepts. Completion of this stage will help provide you with a better
understanding of vocabulary and grammar usage so that you can communicate
with a higher degree of fluency and confidence.
Duration
Short Term: 2 Months (approx. 40 hours)
Long Term: 6+ Months (approx. 120+ hours)
Attendance
Self paced: 2 times per week (approx. 60 mins. per visit)
Choice of evening or daytime classes

Main Objectives
The main objective of this
course is to increase students knowledge in the usage of English
grammar and to develop their speaking and fluency skills. They will learn
to discuss about current issues; read technical manuals and do presentations.
Students will be able to talk with a high level of fluency and understanding.
Achieving this level of proficiency is the minimum required in order to
sit in for a standardized English examination.
Course Curriculum
In this course you will:
- Develop a wide range of English
vocabulary
- Learn more complex English grammar
such as the past, third conditional
and possessive adjective + gerund sentences
- Be able to express preferences,
indignation, incomprehension and hypotheses
- Develop confidence and improve
areas in speaking and pronunciation
- Be able to talk and discuss
about economic trends
- Develop listening and reading
skills so that you can understand English used
in various genres
Teaching Methodology
A wide variety of media including video tapes, television,
magazines, personal computer, and newspaper articles, will be used for
instructional purposes. Students will also participate in role play situations
to learn vocabulary and grammar in different contexts.
Evaluation and Certification
Students must pass various checkpoint reviews in the curriculum
before proceeding with each lesson. Failure to pass the checkpoint would
result in the student having to repeat the curriculum.
Written assignments are reviewed
by instructors who provide students with immediate feedback. Instructors
may recommend additional tutorial time or multimedia curriculum review.
Upon completion of the WSI program,
students will receive an internationally recognized Wall Street Institute
Certificate of completion or Diploma. Furthermore, WSI students also have
an option of taking TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication),
an international workplace English examination.
Teaching Materials and English Instructors
All materials and fees for this course are included in
the WSI course fees. Students will be given access to unlimited usage
of the multimedia facilities.
WSI English instructors are all
highly qualified degree holders from leading foreign universities ranging
from the United States and Canada to Australia and Great Britain. They
bring together a wide range of teaching and professional experiences to
enhance the overall quality and dynamics of classroom instruction.
